An opportunity has arisen within the Council's Finance – Transactional Accounting area for a Treasury and Revenue Accounting Officer. This challenging role requires someone with hands on financial accounting experience and the ability to actively participate in the continuous improvement of systems and procedures which enhance the effective and efficient management of Council’s transactional accounting services in the areas of banking, investments and accounts receivable.

The duties of the role include:

    Develop and improve the work systems and practices of the Transactional Accounting team to enhance customer service and meet Council’s reporting obligations in the areas of banking, investments, and accounts receivable.
    Assist with all aspects of the banking, investments, and accounts receivable functions of Council’s accounting system to ensure timely and accurate recording of information.
    Coordinate and complete all of Council’s banking activities including the administration procedures required for Council’s corporate credit cards.
    Assist the coordinator to monitor Council’s daily and monthly cash flow requirements, producing reports for cash flow planning and funds investment and placing investments relative to these requirements by liaising with Council’s investment advisors.
    Preparation of monthly and annual balance sheet reconciliations for all bank, investment, loan and accounts receivable accounts within agreed timeframes.
    Assist in the preparation of monthly reports to Council on the position of Council’s investments and cash balances in accordance with the Local Government Regulations 2005.
    Responsibility for the accounts receivable end of month processes, ensuring correct cut-off procedures are followed in relation to the raising of invoices, receipting of customer payments and issuance of debtor statements.
    Preparation and distribution of aged debtor reports to the various business owners within Council for review and follow-up on their recommendations for the recovery of outstanding debts including referral to Council’s debt recovery agents.


To be successful in this position you will have a degree-based accounting qualification (CPA/ACA) and/or be studying towards such qualifications. You can demonstrate relevant financial accounting experience and have knowledge of best practice accounting principles and their application in a number of operational areas. You will have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, have strong communication skills and be a highly organised problem solver who can initiate and respond effectively to change in a deadline driven environment.
