MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
Working closely with the Executive Director and Leadership team, the Head of Programs is responsible for managing and mentoring the Programs team, facilitating the design and delivery of ActionAid Australia’s (AAA) international program, developing and maintaining strong project management and donor accountability systems, mobilising resources from institutional donors, representing AAA in relevant working groups and other forums, and developing strong relationships across the ActionAid network and with other relevant stakeholders.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- A strategic understanding of, and proven experience in, the international development and humanitarian sectors.
- A strong understanding of AusAID, ability to build relationships within the institution and experience in pro actively identifying funding opportunities / partnerships.
- Experience in institutional fundraising and managing complex contracts with third parties.
- Proven team leadership and management skills, and a high level of cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven organizational leadership skills.
- Ability to lead and manage change, be outcome focused, supportive of staff, enthusiastic and have a “can do” attitude.
- Experience in international development (including humanitarian response and/or recovery and longer-term development), including field experience of humanitarian response and development work, and a good understanding of the difficulties in implementing projects on the ground.
- Strong networking skills and the ability to build relationships.
- Flexibility to manage unplanned and difficult situations.
- Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to successfully represent and advocate on behalf of AAA.
- A strong commitment to AAA’s values and human rights based approaches to development.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications.
