Human Rights Watch ('HRW') is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Associate for its Sydney office. This position reports to the Australia Director of Human Rights Watch.
The Sydney office is part of Human Rights Watch's network of affiliated offices and charities throughout the world. Its core activities are advocacy, media relations, and fundraising. The Associate will support the director to carry out these activities, especially in relation to fundraising and outreach.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist with the organization and coordination of logistics for special events in Australia;
2. Assist with donor relationship management by contacting donors, scheduling and preparing for donor meetings, and tracking communication;
3. Oversee HRW's Raiser's Edge database by updating records and information, generating financial reports, lists and queries, and overseeing data entry for special events;
4. Handle gift processing, including acknowledgment and tax letters;
5. Provide administrative support to the Australia Director;
6. Manage travel arrangements and prepare for and take minutes at meetings;
7. Maintain and update media and advocacy lists;
8. Draft, edit, and distribute communications and documents, including news releases, reports, web content for the HRW Australia website, and other social media as relevant;
9. Assist with research as required;
10. Retrieve and respond to requests for information from partners and the general public;
11. Recruit, coordinate, and supervise interns;
12. Assist with office operations as needed, including ordering supplies, acting as a liaison with vendors, and troubleshooting computer equipment
13. Answer phones, process mail and maintain accurate file-keeping; and
14. Perform other tasks as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, communications, business administration, nonprofit management, law, international relations, fundraising or other related field is required.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience is required.

4. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required.

6. Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications is required.
7. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required.
8. Good judgment, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.
9. Experience in fundraisingand/or event management is desirable.
10. Strong interest in international human rights is desirable.
Other: Applicants for this position must possess current Australian work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date.
